What is Pilates?
Pilates is physical fitness that consists of low-impact flexibility, muscular strength and endurance movements, which were devised by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century.
Pilates works towards creating a more harmonious balance between the muscles and joints, bringing relief from general aches and pains.
There is a strong emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine, rather than on bulking and shortening the muscles.
There are two basic forms of Pilates;
Mat-based Pilates is a series of exercises performed on the floor using gravity and our own body weight to provide resistance.
Equipment-based Pilates, uses specially designed equipment and accessories to provide muscle resistance.
After undertaking a class you will have an increase in energy, a clear and focused mindset and a body that feels strong and in control having been through a challenging workout.
